Hunan & Taiwan Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Joint Exhibition held in Changsha

      A real cultural feast, the Same Culture and Same Family—Hunan & Taiwan Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Joint Exhibition, kicked off at the Hunan Provincial Library on 2nd November. It was a gathering of 35 including chairman of the Taiwan Chinese Art Society Mr. Hu Nianzu, founder of the Chinese Calligraphy & Painting Society Guo Shande and artists from Taiwan and Hunan. It was a meeting to learn from each other by exchanging views. 180 works of calligraphy and painting were on display at the Hunan Provincial Library from 2nd to 6th in November. The first day of opening saw an audience of 1000 plus coming to visit.

      Member of the CPPCC Foreign Affairs Committee, the Party committee Secretary and concurrent Executive Chairman of the China International Communication Centre Long Yuxiang, former Political Commissar of the National University of Defense Technology Wang Hao attended the event at invitation. Deputy Director-general of the Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee Xu Minghua announced its opening.

     Deputy Secretary-general of the Provincial Government Wang Guangming addressed the opening ceremony. On behalf of artists from the Taiwanese community, Guo Shande delivered a speech while the Provincial Trade Promotion Association chairman Li Pei accorded a welcome word to visiting artists.

     The event was co-organized by Hunan Provincial Trade Promotion Association, Hunan Chamber of Interregional Commerce, Hunan Federation of Literary and Art Circles as well as Taiwan China Century Calligraphy & Painting Society. The joint exhibition aimed to be a vehicle in promoting Chinese traditional culture, moving forward trade, economic and cultural communication, cooperation and developement and enhance emotional attachment for the shared culture and history among compatriots in Taiwan Province as well as those at home. The Hunan & Taiwan Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Joint Exhibition displayed 180 works, half and half from artists of Hunan and Taiwan respectively. The collection consisted of a variety of calligraphy, paintings and oil paintings of high quality worth being called as first-class in terms of artistic, ideological and cultural values produced by celebrated calligraphers and painters from both sides.

     The opening ceremony also witnessed a donation of books and artistic creation made by representative artists from the exhibition, veteran leaders of the provincial government and Party Committee to the Library. The former were awarded honorary credentials by the latter. A party was held the same day to host discussion and performance among artists in praise of the brotherly love they share.

      According to Li Pei, chairman of the Provincial Trade Promotion Association, the Joint Exhibition was part of the Hunan Agricultural Products, Arts and Ceramics Promotion Tour in Taiwan activities. By the end of this year, a Hunan delegation with members from agricultural and art sections will visit Taiwan to negotiate cooperative projects with Taiwanese counterparts. Among the attendees at the opening ceremony were Wu Jihai, Wen Xuande, Luo Haipan, Tang Zhixiang, Li Yiheng, Zhang Shuhai, Yang Baohua, Cai Lifeng and other veteran leaders of the provincial government and provincial Party committee, leadership from organizations directly under the provincial government, representatives of calligraphers and painters of Hunan origin, Taiwan compatriots living in Hunan and entrepreneurs.
