CICCC sets up its Southeastern Liaison Office at Fuzhou, Fujian Province

        The opening ceremony of the China International Cultural Communication Center Southeastern Liaison Office was held at the Fujian Assembly Hall, Fuzhou on 22nd December 2013.

 

        Leadership from the CICCC headquarters, such as First Vice Chairman Tang Tianbiao, Vice chairmen Lei Mingqiu, Hu Yanlin, Yu Linxiang, Sha Zukang, Executive chairman Long Yuxiang attended the ceremony.  Local personages witnessed the opening included Vice President of the Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits Sun Yafu, Fujian Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee Vice Chairman Liu Qunying, deputy governor Li Hong, former Fujian Provincial People’s Congress Vice Chairman Ma Lusheng and Zhuang Xian, Director General at the Fujian Provincial Military Region Political Department Sheng Binrong and Deputy Secretary at the Fuzhou Municipal Government Zhou Hong.

        The CICCC Party Committee Secretary and concurrent Executive Chairman Long Yuxiang addressed the ceremony. He said, Fujian boasts a long history and rich traditional culture. The province enjoys a great geographical advantage adjoining Taiwan with only a strip of water in between. The Southeastern Liaison Office is one of the CICCC’s subsidiaries. Under the correct leadership of the CICCC, the new office is expected to put into effect the spirits of the 18th CCP National Conference and the 3rd Plenary Session of 18th CPC Central Committee. It must work in a solid fashion, more purposefully cooperating with the provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Government and the Military Region, responsibly carrying out the tasks of cultural communication, striving for the promotion of Fujian’s cultural strength and international influence. The office is also expected to take full advantage of Fujian’s close ties with the overseas Chinese and its geographical strength in communication with Taiwan to enhance exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in fields like economy, culture and education as well, enriching local cultures including the Minnan culture, the Hakkas culture and Mazu culture shared by both. Finally, the office is expected to play an active part in moving forward the great course of cultural development and prosperity and in promoting peaceful unification of the country.

        On behalf of the leaders from provincial, municipal levels, Fujian Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee Vice Chairman Liu Qunying extended enthusiastic congratulations to the founding of the CICCC’s Southeastern Liaison Office and a warm welcome to all leaders and distinguished guests present at the event. She said, the CICCC remains a significant window for international cultural communication. For years the body has made considerable contribution to the economic development, cultural prosperity and social harmony of the nation by enhancing international cultural dialogues, promoting friendship between peoples, advocating world peace and collective development. The province lies on the southeastern coast, facing Taiwan across the sea, bordering the Pearl River Delta to the south and the Yangtze River Delta north. One of the earliest provinces opening up to the outside world and a pilot region of the national comprehensive reform, the province is close to Hong Kong and Macau, neighboring the South-East Asia. It boasts a long history and rich cultural resources. The founding of the new office serves to indicate the great importance attached by the CICCC to the province and to the cultural building of the province. She hoped that under the correct leadership of the CICCC, the new office would put into effect the spirit of the 18th CCP National Conference, forge ahead towards an advanced socialist culture, adhere firmly to the strategic goal of improving cultural strength, give full play to local cultures including the Minnan Culture, Hakkas culture and Mazu culture, take advantage of regional resources and geographical edge to communicate with Taiwan, expand exchanges between the two sides in terms of family reunion, shared cultural kinship, family visiting and folk religions, positively enhance cooperation and dialogues between the two in fields like economy, culture and education, make use of the CICCC’s platform to accelerate Fujian’s international cultural influence by organizing large-scale cultural activities with influence and popularity, to move forward the province’s culture towards an international one, keep improving its cultural competitiveness and impact. In such doing, the office will play a great part in forging ahead comprehensively social and cultural development of Fujian.

        On behalf of all liaison offices under the CICCC, Ji Shaoying, Director of the North China Liaison Office delivered a speech to congratulate the new one. Ji declared their position, saying they would rally around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, join hand in hand and work hard to push forward the Chinese culture into the international arena. They would do their bit in the great cause of achieving the great renewal of the Chinese nation.

        Newly appointed Executive Director of the Southeastern Liaison Office Lu Jianghui stated in his speech that the office would assume the responsibility to discover, display and spread the southeastern cultures, to enhance cultural cooperation and dialogues among four regions across the Strait as well as the South-East Asia at large, to promote its host region’s cultural exchanges with the rest of the world, to elevate the southeastern and the Chinese cultures in general into the central stage of the world, to cooperate with the local party committees, armies and governments in cultural spread and finally to become an agency for socialist cultural innovation, development and prosperity.
